To write and contribute to MyVillage, you have to join this forum and become a member. Joining is easy – click Register on the top tool bar and follow the instructions.
Take a look at our style guide to get an idea of the sort of articles we like to publish.
The Contributors Area
The Contributors Area is where you can introduce yourself, volunteer for writing any articles we need, suggest an idea / article to us or ask us for help – we are very friendly and quite happy to give you some pointers if you are stuck.
We have split the Contributors Area into four easy parts:
Introduce Yourself
This is mainly so we know what areas around the UK you are most familiar with (eg, you might go to University in Aberdeen but be from Chelsea in London) – then if we want an article about either of those areas we know who to call upon! Also feel free to mention anything else here that could be relevant such as whether or not you have writing experience – we totally welcome people with none and people with tons, so no worries about that. Also, if you have a hankering to write anything in particular, let us know here.
Example:
Hello MyVillage! My name is Sonia and I go to St Andrews University, studying Media Studies. I am familiar with Aberdeen and London (especially Chelsea) and although am happy writing about anything, would really like to write about Bars and Music.
Articles Needed
We will start threads here saying what articles we need writing – to volunteer for any, simply reply to that thread and wait for an administrator or a moderator to give you the green light. Don’t start writing without it!
And what if you have volunteered for something but have been sick / got another deadline / cannot do it for any reason? Simply post back to the same thread in good time and then someone else can volunteer – we will forgive, but just don’t do it too often!
A little tip: You do not need to be familiar with an area or subject to write about it (although it always helps). Search engines can always be used to find out more on local subjects – good research skills are a must in this business!
Make A Suggestion
Want to write about something we haven’t mentioned yet? Start a thread here and put in your proposal – we will think over it and get back to you!
Ask Us A Question
So you have volunteered for writing about beer drinking in Brent but you are a wine drinker from Winchester? Not quite sure where to start – ask us, we have many tips we can share with you.
The Editors Area
Finished your article? Post it as a new thread in the Editors Area. We will then edit it if needed, and re-post the edited article to the same thread, so you can see how we do it. We will then give feedback on this article in the same thread, and when the article is published, we will post the links here for you, again in the same thread.
General Chat
Well, everyone needs a place to chat, don't they? Use this section to chat amongst yourselves, about writing, tips, courses... :) |
